$141,319,928 was the gross profit made by the production
team of slumdog millionaire which was massive seeing as they spent $15 million
on this product. This was due to factors such as having it shown in many
different countries and having it suitable for different languages.

Poster analysis
The font is quite bold, and has an irregular ‘broken’ effect. It seems torn and shattered perhaps reflecting the characters in the film. This is also may be due to the fact that the area of Mumbai is not built up and maybe be a ruined due to terrible conditions.
The colour changes from a deep red with connotations of passion, romance or on a different note violence, to a light yellow with connotations of new life, freshness and new beginnings. This could we a reflection of the narrative of the film, the film starts of violent and passionate, but ends calmly, with new beginnings, perhaps a happy ending.
The majority of the cast are mainly unknown, Dev Patel and Freida Pinto are the main characters and both were new to film acting. However Danny Boyle the director is well known and therefore is recognizable to a modern audience.
The actors are not actually placed at all on the poster, only their faces are displayed, this could perhaps be because there so unknown that the designers thought it was necessary to include them. However, be the title graphics it reads “A Danny Boyle film” in a bright yellow, this time to make it stand out.
Distribution
Another way in which distribution for slumdog millionaire was Slum Dog Millionaire was marketed first in adverts, this is how it became more popular and more and more people wanted to watch it. The trailer which was shown on the TV was advertised on YouTube as well which accumulated up to 8 million views.
For their marketing strategy Slum Dog Millionaire was only released in 6 major cities they then invited the Asian media this was so the film had better media coverage and then when it was released the cinema sales were bigger than due to the coverage.

Exhibition
At first ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was not shown in every cinema in the UK and USA. This is because at first Boyle thought it would be a film to be shown in Art House cinemas. This soon changed when the hype of ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ hit both the UK and USA.
Slumdog Millionaire was first shown at the Telluride Film Festival on 30 August 2008, where it was positively received by audiences, the film also screened at the Toronto International film Festival on 7 September 2008, where it was "the first widely acknowledged popular success" of the festival.
When ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ was first released in 9 January 2009 in the UK, it was originally meant to be shown in Art House cinemas but with its success it was quickly, moved from Art House cinemas to major cinemas such as Odeon and Vue. It was released in USA on the 23rd January 2008.
In North America the film only opened in 10 cinemas, then in the second week it was shown in 32 cinemas by the 25 December it was shown In 614.
Distribution
The distribution companies changed varying on what country they were in. for example the main distribution company in the UK was Pathé whereas in USA it was Fox Searchlight Pictures. This is because these companies are specific to the country they are located in.
There was a rumour that ‘slumdog millionaire’ was going to go straight to DVD instead of going to the cinema but this rumour disbanded and then was released into the cinemas.
